Welcome to Greathouse Elementary School, the home of the Knights! Our vision is to create independent thinkers and learners who will leave our diverse campus exemplifying good character and with a passion for lifelong learning. The Greathouse faculty and staff commit themselves to build this community of learners to ensure the academic and emotional growth of each student so they become responsible, successful and productive leaders of their own communities. Greathouse is home to about 750 students from Pre-K through 6th grade. Greathouse is for long-time Midland businessman and community leader Barney R. Greathouse.

Our Namesake

Our school is named in honor of Barney R. Greathouse. He and his wife, Helen Lee Maddox, were married and relocated to Midland, Texas in 1929. Barney was largely involved in the community through his work as a Director of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, his help in establishing the Trinity Towers, and chartering the Commercial Bank and Trust (now Chase Bank) with our former President, George H.W. Bush. Mr. Greathouse was involved in many other community organizations up until his untimely death in 1973. Helen chose to see their efforts and legacy carried out when she created the Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust in 1997. Barney R. Greathouse Elementary is located in the northwest corner of Midland, Texas. We have an enrollment around 750 students with grades that range from Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade. We are honored to carry the namesake of Mr. Greathouse.
